Insemination with Frozen Semen

Insemination with frozen semen

Insemination with frozen semen is a highly effective breeding method that provides access to outstanding stallions from around the world while preserving valuable genetics for future generations. With precise cycle monitoring and accurate timing, frozen semen can achieve excellent pregnancy rates when managed by experienced equine reproduction specialists.

At Clinica SA, every insemination programme is individually tailored to your mare's reproductive cycle. Our veterinary team closely monitors ovulation using advanced ultrasound diagnostics to ensure insemination is performed at the optimal time, maximising the chance of successful fertilisation.

Whether you are using your own frozen semen or semen from an international stallion, our equine frozen semen insemination programme offers professional reproductive management, personalised veterinary care and a seamless breeding experience from arrival to pregnancy diagnosis.

How Does Insemination with Frozen Semen Work?

Successful insemination with frozen semen depends on precise timing and expert reproductive management. Our experienced veterinary team closely monitors every stage of your mare's cycle to maximise the chances of a successful pregnancy.

01 Initial Reproductive Examination +

Every programme begins with a comprehensive reproductive examination. We assess your mare's reproductive health, review her breeding history and create an individual insemination plan tailored to her cycle.

02 Intensive Cycle Monitoring +

Your mare's ovaries are monitored by ultrasound throughout her cycle. As ovulation approaches, examinations are performed every 6 hours, allowing insemination to be timed as precisely as possible.

03 Frozen Semen Preparation +

Frozen semen is safely stored in liquid nitrogen until the optimal moment. Immediately before insemination, the semen is carefully thawed and prepared according to established reproductive protocols.

04 Precise Insemination +

The insemination is performed as close to ovulation as possible to compensate for the shorter lifespan of frozen-thawed semen and maximise the likelihood of fertilisation.

05 Pregnancy Diagnosis +

Following insemination, your mare undergoes ultrasound examinations to confirm pregnancy and monitor early embryonic development.
