How Does Insemination with Fresh Semen Work?
Fresh semen insemination combines precise reproductive management with accurate ovulation timing to maximise the chances of successful fertilisation and pregnancy. Every breeding programme is individually planned according to your mare's reproductive cycle.
01 Initial Reproductive Examination +
Your mare undergoes a comprehensive reproductive examination, including ultrasound evaluation and cycle assessment. Based on the findings, our specialists create an individual breeding plan.
02 Cycle Monitoring +
Your mare's reproductive cycle is closely monitored to accurately determine the optimal time for insemination. Precise timing is essential to maximise fertility when using fresh or chilled semen.
03 Semen Arrival +
Fresh or chilled semen is delivered directly to our clinic by the stallion owner or stud farm. Please note that Scuderia SA does not arrange the purchase or transport of fresh semen, and these arrangements must be made by the owner in advance.
04 Insemination +
Once the semen has arrived and ovulation is approaching, insemination is performed at the optimal time by our experienced equine reproduction specialists using established veterinary protocols.
05 Pregnancy Diagnosis +
Following insemination, your mare undergoes ultrasound examinations to confirm pregnancy and monitor early embryonic development.
Arrival Conditions +
We can welcome horses to our equine reproductive facility if we receive the horses:
with a valid equine passport of the animal
less than one year old NEGATIVE infectious anaemia (EIA) and glanders test results
less than 6-months-old equine influenza and tetanus virus vaccine
In order to send the retrieved oocytes for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), a TRACES document is required, the conditions for which are:*
2 negative CEM results, with a minimum of 7 days elapsed between the two samples, results valid for 1 year (or 1 negative CEM PCR result)
negative result of infectious anaemia (EIA) test within 90 days
*These requirements can also be fulfilled by our team at CLINICA SA.
We are able to receive mares Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Outside of these hours, as well as on weekends and holidays, we can receive mares by appointment only, with an additional fee of €50.
