August was an exciting month for Hungarian sport horse breeding, with several important events bringing together breeders, owners, young horses and industry professionals. As a committed partner of the Hungarian equestrian and breeding community, Clinica SA was proud to support several of these events and contribute to the development of modern sport horse breeding.
Our involvement reflects Clinica SA’s commitment to being an active part of the Hungarian sport horse breeding community and to making modern reproductive technologies more accessible to breeders.
Supporting the Next Generation of Hungarian Sport Horses
During August, we supported events organized for Hungarian sport horse breeders, including the annual mare performance test and foal championship.
These events provide an important opportunity to evaluate young breeding stock and highlight the genetic potential of the next generation of sport horses.
Almost 30 three-, four- and five-year-old mares took part in the mare performance test, with show jumping horses making up the majority of the field. The foal championship brought together nearly 50 foals, representing both Hungarian and international stallions.
To support breeders in taking the next step in their breeding programs, OPU and embryo transfer (ET) vouchers were awarded to the top-performing horses.
By offering these vouchers, our aims to encourage the use of modern equine reproductive technologies in Hungarian sport horse breeding. Techniques such as ovum pick-up (OPU), ICSI and embryo transfer can provide breeders with new opportunities to preserve valuable genetics, multiply the offspring of outstanding mares and continue breeding careers while mares remain active in sport.
International Foal Trophy: A New Platform for Sport Horse Breeders
Scuderia also supported the first International Foal Trophy, organized by Five Star Horse Auction.
The new event was created with the goal of establishing an open, international platform for sport horse breeders, bringing together foals with strong pedigrees, promising maternal lines and significant sporting and market potential.
Almost 30 foals were entered in the first edition, representing both Hungarian and international studbooks. The field was dominated by Zangersheide (ZANG) registered or registerable foals, while HSH, Holsteiner (HOLST), Oldenburg (OS) and KWPN foals were also represented.
The genetic background of the foals was particularly strong. Around 50% of the entries had blacktype pedigrees, defined for the purposes of the International Foal Trophy as maternal lines with sport horses successful at 1.40 m level or above within the first three generations.
This approach made the evaluation different from a traditional foal presentation. The focus was not only on the foal visible in the arena on the day, but also on the genetic background, maternal family and long-term sporting and market potential behind each young horse.
Connecting Sport Horse Breeding with Modern Reproduction

The development of high-quality sport horses depends on combining careful selection, strong genetics, responsible breeding decisions and modern reproductive technologies. By connecting breeders with these technologies, we want to contribute to a future in which advanced reproductive methods become an increasingly natural part of sport horse breeding in Hungary.
OPU, ICSI and embryo transfer offer breeders additional flexibility when working with valuable mares and stallions. They can help preserve exceptional genetics, produce multiple offspring from selected mares and integrate breeding into the careers of high-performance sport horses.
